The journey
Your path from freshman year to acceptance.
Most students start preparing much later than they should. Here is what a strong application timeline looks like.
Year 1
Explore & Begin
Identify your target profession, begin prerequisite coursework, join student organizations, meet a pre-health advisor.
Year 2
Build Experience
Begin shadowing, obtain clinical experience, continue prerequisites, seek leadership roles and research opportunities.
Year 3
Prepare to Apply
Complete prerequisites, prepare for entrance exams, draft your personal statement, build your school list.
Year 4
Apply & Interview
Submit applications early, request letters of recommendation, prepare for interviews, and accept your offer.
Common questions
Answers to what every pre-health student is asking.
Start by identifying your intended health profession, learning the common prerequisites for that field, and building a long-term academic and experiential plan. Connecting with a pre-health advisor early makes a significant difference.
Prerequisite courses vary by profession and by individual graduate school. Most programs require biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, statistics, and psychology. Always research the specific programs you plan to apply to.
Most programs expect clinical experience, shadowing, volunteering, research, and leadership. Quality and reflection matter more than simply accumulating hours.
Earlier than most students think. Preparation should begin your first year of college. Most programs use rolling admissions so submitting early matters significantly.
Competitive applicants demonstrate strength across five areas: strong GPA, prerequisite coursework, meaningful experiences, strong letters of recommendation, and early organized preparation for the application process.
Your academic advisor supports degree requirements and graduation planning. Your pre-health advisor focuses on graduate school preparation — timelines, clinical experiences, personal statements, letters of recommendation, and helping you become the most competitive applicant possible. You need both.
